WHY ROB STARTED PITMASTER TOOLS

A LOVE OF BARBECUE
FOUNDED IN A LOVE FOR HIS WIFE.

Out of love for his wife and the different styles of barbecue, Rob undertook a study of barbecue which, to date, spans 16 years.

Angela says with a smile that, “over this time he has mastered brisket and I enjoy eating it.”

In the early days of Rob's barbecue adventures, there was little (if any) barbecue brisket or smoked sausage in their adopted home state of North Carolina. Out of necessity and love for his wife, he learned how to cook brisket. Aware of the richness of barbecue in his new home state he also learned how to cook "Texas style" pork butt.

Rob first studied by interacting in early online barbecue newsgroups (alt.food.barbecue) and worked his way through a collection of carefully selected books. From "Legends of Texas Barbecue" to "Franklin Barbeque". Rob started his barbecue efforts on a charcoal grill passed down from Steve his Father In Law. Within a year he was bitten by the barbecue bug and upgraded to a New Braunfels/ Oklahoma Joe brand offset barbecue pit purchased from Barbecues Galore.

This led to an understanding of the challenges and fun of cooking barbecue. A desire to help other cooks learn and enjoy the experience inspired Rob to found Pitmaster Tools and it's line of products.
